Congratulations to this week's super hero, Xavier.  Xavier is a hard worker in Room 11 and is always very helpful.  Thanks for being awesome Xavier!

James Meets Someone Special

James and his family were lucky enough to meet the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern.  Ms Ardern was in Dunedin opening the new Labour rooms, as well as speaking at the University.  Wow James!  Lucky you!

Congratulations to Salote who was this week's super hero.  Salote is a fantastic role model in our classroom, always working hard, helping others and using her manners!

Buddy Time with Kindle 1

Every second Friday, we meet with our buddy class Kindle 1.  We help the juniors and have fun learning together.  We like to buddy read with them and today we used the iPads.  We worked with our buddy to create a comic on Book Creator with photos and sound.

Art Gallery Trip

On Thursday, Room 11 went for a trip to the Dunedin Art Gallery.  The children had a tour of the gallery and then learned about the famous artist Picasso.  We found out that Picasso's portraits were different to those who painted and drew portraits before him, because he played around with colour and different perspectives to produce portraits which were a bit crazy and didn't look life-like.  Our Picasso portraits are hanging in our classroom.  You are welcome to come in and see them.

Meet the Teacher Evening

Wednesday 14 February 2018 No comments
Mrs O'Neill and Mrs McCulley would like to invite all of the parents and caregivers to 'Meet the Teacher' evening tonight (Thursday 15th February).  The evening begins in the school hall with Mr Galloway, then parents can go to the individual classrooms to meet their children's teacher(s).  There will be two sessions for those parents that have more than one child at George Street.  Hopefully we will see you tonight!

Starting Swimming

We begin our swimming lessons with the JC Swim School in Week 5.  Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help us.  We are still looking for more helpers on Tuesday 6th of March and Thursday 8th of March if you are available.

Homework

Monday 12 February 2018 No comments
Homework has begun this week.  Every week the children will have the following activities to complete:

* Reading
* Spelling
* Maths
* Active Kids

Currently the children have spelling words which they spelt incorrectly from their spelling test at the beginning of the year.  Their maths activities will be in the form of maths quizzes until the numeracy programme starts later in the term.

There will also be an optional extra activity.  This is usually a fun activity for the children to complete if they would like extra work to do at home.  We share our work from the optional extra activity each Friday.

In the front of your child's book there is also a list of suggestions if you require further homework activities.

Have fun and please remember to return your homework book each Friday!

Congratulations to Timmy who has had an amazing week in Room 11!

Problem Solving

Each Friday, we are doing problem solving activities with Mrs McCulley.  Today we completed a fun activity about turkeys.  How many combinations can you make using the turkey's clothing below?

Guess who?

We have been really busy with Mrs O'Neill making really cool posters about yourselves.  Please come into our classroom and she if you can figure out who we are!

Each week, one child will be chosen as the 'Super Hero of the Week'.  This person has shown that they have worked extra hard, used lovely manners and has helped others in the classroom.  Our first super hero was Libby.  Well done!

Lucky Book Club

Today Lucky Book Club pamphlets were sent home.  These are due back on Friday 16th of February.

Our First Week

What a fantastic week we have had in Room 11.  Mrs O'Neill and Mrs McCulley have enjoyed meeting all the children in the class.  We have had a busy but fun week getting to know each other.
